Brief curriculum

José Solla Gullón

I graduated in Chemistry at the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain (1997). Then, I presented my Dissertation about the physico-chemical properties of Co/Ag nanoparticles prepared in microemulsion under the supervision of Prof. M. A. López-Quintela in the Physical-Chemistry Department of the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain (1997). In November 2003, I obtained the PhD Degree in Chemistry with Summa Cum Laude qualification and with the distinction of European Doctor Mention in the Physical-Chemistry Department of the University of Alicante, Spain (2003) under the supervision of Prof. A. Aldaz and Prof. V. Montiel.

My research is related to the synthesis, characterization and electrochemical properties of different metal nanoparticles. My overall publication record includes 105 publications (89 research articles, both in multi-disciplinary and leading specialized journals and 16 book chapters, including (8) research book chapters and (8) educational book chapters). My h-index is 29 and my total number of citations is about 2500 (provided by Scopus (05-03-2014)). I have also more than 170 contributions in international and national meetings and I have worked in 9 research projects (2 European ERA-NET, 6 national and 1 national CENIT projects).

I am member of the referee board of 40 international journals, including Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., J. Am. Chem. Soc., Chem. Commun., ACS Nano, Energy & Environ. Sci., J. Phys. Chem. B and C, Phys. Chem. Chem. Phys., Electrochem. Commun., Adv. Energy Mater., Adv. Funct. Mater., Small, and Chem. Eur. J., among others. I am also member of the Editorial Board of Dataset Papers in Science: Physical Chemistry and also I am research project reviewer for the American Chemical Society Petroleum Research Fund., and for the Agencia Nacional de Promoción Científica y Tecnológica (ANPCyT) of Argentina.

I conducted different research stays at the Chemistry Department of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (USA) under the supervision of Prof. A. Wieckowski (2000) at the Chemistry Department of University of Cambridge, UK, under the supervision of Prof. R. M. Lambert (2002) and at the Institute of Surface Chemistry and Catalysis of the University of Ulm, Germany (Group Leader Prof. R. J. Behm, (2012)).

My research has been awarded with the (1) Sigma-Aldrich Emerging Investigator Award 2013 to the best scientific career of a Spanish young researcher provided by the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry, (2) CIDETEC 2005 Prize to the best young researcher of the Spanish Society of Electrochemistry and (3) San Alberto Magno Prize 2004 in Research on Chemistry to the best Doctoral Thesis of the Royal Society of Chemistry of Spain (Alicante Section).

In relation to my Research and Transfer activity, I have been selected by the INNOCASH GENOMA research-transfer program (2010) with the project: Preparation of shape-controlled metallic nanoparticles. This project has been also awarded with the University of Alicante award for the Best Applied Research Project in the 15th edition of the New Business Ideas Program (2008-2009) and also with the Impulso Business Project Award 2012.

I am member of the (1) International Society of Electrochemistry (ISE), (2) Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry, Electrochemistry Group (RSEQ) and (3) Ibero-American Society of Electrochemistry (SIBAE).
